Yakima Boys Injured in Collision While Walking to School

Police in Yakima suspect that the driver of a car that struck two brothers, ages 10 and 11, in October was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  The boys had left their home on the way to school and stopped to draw pictures in the dew on their family’s car when a passing vehicle struck them, according to a news report. Authorities said the car dragged the boys about 80 feet before a neighbor who saw the accident was able to get the driver’s attention. The younger brother suffered head injuries and fractures.  The driver was arrested on vehicular assault charges.

Washington State Car Accidents

Despite extraordinary efforts at the state and national levels to educate drivers about the risk of drinking or using drugs while driving, an astounding number of people still choose to engage in this risky behavior. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 170 people lost their lives and thousands of others were injured in 2010 in the State of Washington as a result of crashes involving impaired drivers.
